Do I need a mobile-friendly website?

This was a question I asked myself during the recent design process for justinwillet.com . Perhaps you are wondering the same thing for your blog or business. What’s all the hype about having fluid and responsive websites? What do these terms even mean?

A fluid or responsive website is designed with computers, tablets and phone platforms in mind. This means that no matter what device your customer is viewing your content on, they will still have a similar experience and the best possible viewing results.

By the numbers.

Analytics are key to tracking how effective your website is. After the most recent launch of justinwillet.com we were curious how many people actually viewed the website on mobile devices, thus, if having a responsive mobile website was really worthwhile. We are pleased to share that approximately 33% of our viewers  (as of 10.21.14) visited our site on a mobile device. That’s 33% of people that wouldn’t have been able to view our site or worse – would have had a negative experience. Other research* has boasted that 75% of people prefer mobile websites. 75% !

*“What Users Want Most From Mobile Sites Today”, a study from Google (conducted by Sterling Research and SmithGeiger, independent market research firms). The report surveyed 1,088 US adult smartphone Internet users in July 2012.

With social networks on the rise and the majority of marketing taking place online through apps like Twitter and Facebook, the time is now to upgrade your site to be mobile-friendly!
